Serving Cairns
Direct Cremation Cairns
We are based in Cairns, so when you call, the person answering is local and the transfer starts from here.
A direct cremation for a family in Cairns costs $1,990 + GST, the same as anywhere else we serve. It includes the transfer into our care, all paperwork and permits, the cremation, and the return of the ashes to you.
Ashes to Ashes is based in Mooroobool, a few minutes from the Cairns CBD. That matters more than it sounds. When you ring us about someone who has died in Cairns, you are not talking to a call centre in another state that then subcontracts the work. You are talking to Shane, and the transfer is arranged from here.
We bring people into our care from anywhere in the Cairns area: from home, from Cairns Hospital, from a private hospital, from a hospice, or from an aged care facility. If your loved one is in a facility, we speak to the staff directly and handle the release paperwork. You do not need to know the process or chase anyone.
Cairns families are often spread out, with adult children in Brisbane or interstate. If you are the one interstate and organising this from a distance, that is completely normal for us. We can do everything by phone and email, and we will keep whoever needs to be in the loop updated.
What it costs in Cairns
$1,990 + GST, covering everything listed on our pricing page. There is no travel surcharge for being outside Cairns. The only thing that can change the total is a transfer outside office hours or on a weekend, and we will tell you the exact amount before anything happens.

What happens when you call
Four steps, and we carry all of them
Most families have never done this before and have no idea where to start. That is normal. Here is the whole process, start to finish.
-
You call, any hour
Tell Shane where your loved one is and he will take it from there. If they are in a hospital, hospice or aged care home, he speaks to the staff directly. You do not need to know what happens next.
-
We bring them into our care
We arrange the transfer, day or night, and care for your loved one respectfully from that moment on. You are told exactly when it has happened.
-
We handle every form
The doctor’s certificates, the permits, the registration of the death, the BDM certificate. All of it is ours to sort out, not yours.
-
The ashes come back to you
Once the cremation is complete the ashes are returned to you personally, at no extra cost. What you do from there, and when, is entirely up to your family.
Cairns questions
Common questions from Cairns
None of these are silly questions. If yours is not here, call Shane on 0461 543 517 and just ask.
Do you collect from Cairns Hospital?
Yes. We transfer from Cairns Hospital, private hospitals, hospices, aged care facilities and private homes anywhere in the Cairns area. We speak to the facility directly and arrange the release ourselves, so you do not have to organise anything with them.
How quickly can you come?
We can arrange a transfer at any hour, day or night. In practice the timing often depends on the facility and on the medical paperwork rather than on us. Call and Shane will tell you honestly what to expect for your situation.
How much does a direct cremation cost in Cairns?
A direct cremation with Ashes to Ashes is $1,990 plus GST. That covers the transfer into our care, mortuary care, all permits and paperwork, an environmentally friendly coffin, the cremation itself and the return of the ashes. Transfers outside office hours may cost more, and we will tell you first.
Are you available 24 hours a day?
Yes. Someone answers the phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, because a death does not wait for business hours. We can arrange a transfer at any hour across Cairns, Port Douglas and the Atherton Tablelands. Office hours for paperwork are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Can we still hold a memorial or service afterwards?
Yes, and many families do. A direct cremation simply separates the cremation from the service. Once the ashes are back with you, you are free to hold a memorial whenever and wherever suits your family, in your own time and without a funeral director setting the schedule.
