You should be able to see the cost before you ring anyone. Here it is, along with everything it covers and the one thing that can change it.
What the price covers
- Transfer of your loved one into our care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Mortuary care and preservation
- All application and registration paperwork
- Doctor's cremation certificates
- An environmentally friendly cardboard coffin
- Private transport to the crematorium
- The cremation fee
- Registration of the death and the official certificate
- Delivery of the ashes to your family, or to a nominated friend
The one thing that can change the price
The price covers transfers during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. A transfer outside those hours or on a weekend may cost more. We will always tell you the exact amount before anything happens.
What is not included
- A funeral service, chapel hire or a celebrant. A direct cremation does not include a service, and that is what keeps the cost down. You are free to hold your own memorial whenever and wherever you like.
- Death notices, flowers, catering or printed booklets.
- A premium coffin or a decorative urn beyond the standard return of the ashes. Ask and we will quote it plainly.
How this compares
A traditional funeral in Australia commonly runs into many thousands of dollars once the service, the venue, the cars, the coffin and the extras are added together. We are not going to quote a competitor's number at you, because prices move and it would be a guess. What we will say is that the gap is large, and the difference is the event, not the care.

No pressure, ever
There is nothing to sign to ask a question. Nobody will call you back repeatedly. You will not be offered an upgrade at the worst moment of your year. The price you are told is the price you are invoiced.

How much does a direct cremation cost in Cairns?
A direct cremation with Ashes to Ashes is $1,990 plus GST. That covers the transfer into our care, mortuary care, all permits and paperwork, an environmentally friendly coffin, the cremation itself and the return of the ashes. Transfers outside office hours may cost more, and we will tell you first.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price is the price, and there is no upselling. The only variable is an after-hours or weekend transfer, which may cost more, and we will always tell you the amount before we do anything. You will never receive an invoice with a surprise on it.
Why is a direct cremation cheaper than a funeral?
Because you are not paying for a service. There is no chapel hire, no celebrant, no cars, no flowers and no catering. The cremation itself, the care of your loved one and the legal paperwork all still happen exactly as they would otherwise. Only the event is removed.
Is the price different in Port Douglas or on the Tablelands?
No. The price is the same wherever you are in our service area. The only thing that can change the total is a transfer outside office hours or on a weekend, and that applies in Cairns just as much as it does further out.
